2/07 SECOND DAY OF WORK
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I woke up at 7:30 and I searched on the Internet the address for the Cosham Park. I want to go and ride or run. So I make a little map in order to not forget…I say goodbye to Karen and Keith before I leave. Unfortunately, Google map gave me wrong address, it was the house of Cosham Park. Thus, I take the little map that Keith drew me yesterday. Finally, I ask an old lady help because I'm not sure of my direction but it's great…few miles after I find the Park…not extraordinary but enough to make sport. Even kids can play.
I spend nearly one hour to ride around the football field . When I come back, I take a shower and prepare for work and administrative stuffs. Yes, before to take the bus, I pass the Post Office in order to send my post cards. (£0.56 for one stamp). I buy a new bus ticket for the week and during the travel I start to read one of my school's books (Simmel, Philosophie de l'argent).
Soon, I arrive in Portsmouth city centre, I go to HSBC in order to open Bank account. I choose it because I know that it is international so I could manage my account also in France. Unfortunately, they have changed politic about account. I can open an account bank for only 2 months. She advises me to go to other bank. I follow her advice by opening a bank account in the second bank that I have already heard speaking: Lloyds TSB bank.
A first man welcomes me and sends me to Sam Webb, my very nice personal banker who has a desk downstairs. She explains me all important stuffs and opens me a classic account. She prints me all contract and gives me information about her bank and her personal card. I ask her where I have to go for P46 tax and National insurance number. She tells me to go to Post office, they might help me. Great, I have now my English bank account. I will receive my credit card and private number by post in 2 different letters. She appreciates my accent and thinks that I have a good English…I'm surprised….She isn't very young…but why not ;)
Next step, I'm going to Post office. New bad news: they don't make what I search. She gives me the name of company that can help me: INLAND REVENUE and I ask for the address, she tells me that I can find it on a map…Cheers!
I continue my battle by going to Guildhall and ask them the address…they send me to the Civic office…which gives me the address and phone number.
I came back to the commercial road and I find the INLAND REVENUE few miles after (wingfield house 08453000628). I have to register at the welcome desk. They give a pass card and explain me to go to 6th floor. Great, soon done.
Next door, there is 2 desks where employees wait. I ask for information about National Insurance Number and the P46. She tells to phone 08456000643, number of Job centre plus helpline. I speak to a lady who hasn't understood me much. However, I succeed to take an interview for the 14th of July at 11:15 after I give her my identity's information.
I'm hungry , I have spent 2 hours with stupid administrative stuffs. So, I go to the Wetherspoon, my preferred pub because it's cheap and I can use free Wi-Fi. I ask for a Jackpot potato and tuna mayo with ABBOT ALE. It's very good, quiet light. I have planned to continue to visit the Dockyard before to work at 18:00. On the road, I have seen my boss, who goes to Cafe Rouge by ridding bycycle...ouah, surprise!
§§§ DOCKYARD §§§
I have finished at the dockyard at 17:00. I go to the Gunwharf Quays and read a little until 17:30, because I have to speak with Jon about my contract and other stuffs. So, I need to arrive in advance. Soon, I arrive Jon accept to see me in his little office. He has to register me on his computer. He uses TRAGUS CONTRACT where he adds all my details (firstname, surname, other name, address, phone number, ID number...). I give him my account number and a copy of my ID card and the P46 but without my National Insurance Number because I have an interview the 14th. It's all right for me, I sign the contract of Barman staff. I have to work 70 hours per 2 weeks and I have paid £5.75 per hour.
§§§ MY TIMESTABLE §§§
Great! I'm officially barman to the Cafe Rouge. But now, it's the time to work! Hello everybody. Soon I arrive, I prepare lemon and I so hurry that I cut my thumb. It's Okay there isn't blood on the lemon...Ouf!
I ask Marco where are the bandages and Nicky goes to search in the kitchen where she presents me to Greg and Aaron, the cooks. We aren't very busy because it's Thursday.
I speak Spanish with Marco. It's longer and longer conversations...It's great. He is married but his wife doesn't live here in England with him. He can't dance like a true Brasilian. He spends his freetime at his home by watching TV, sport, and surfing on the Internet. He lives in Southsea but he doesn't go often to the beach...due to it's only stone beach!
Before we closed, I ask Nicky if I can eat something. She agrees but I have to eat quicky...So I ask for a Croque Monsieur. In 2 minutes I have finished. It's good: they don't use toast but campagne bread and the cheese isn't inside but on the top of the bread then of course it's served with chips.
It's my first closed of restaurant, so Marco shows me all the stuffs that I have to do and not forget. Make the stock of all drinks ; clean glasses of doors ; clean main furnitures ; clean and put products in the dishwasher ; clean all the machine of cafe/cappucino ; clean the box of waste for coffee ; throw garbages ; bring cup from the kitchen ; switch off the light of freezers ; sweep and wash the ground ; finally switch off the bar's lights. It's done...Nice day!
I thought that there is bus at 23 but I'm wrong so I go to the station. Of course not the closer...so easy: Portsmouth Southsea...Stupid I'm! Moreover, I buy a ticket before to check if there is a train...of course there isn't anymore! Great, no bus, no train...maybe walk ....no so far! Last chance: Taxi...fucking transport...yeah! It's cost me £10, moreover I ask him to stop in the entrance of Cosham...I amn't crazy...I prefer walking that pay more!
