4/07 THIRD DAY OF WORK AND 5/07
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I arrive few minutes late. Gemma told me. Marco is already behind the bar, ha has started at 10 and finishs to 23. I reconize few people: Adele, Nicky, Emma, Charles, Anna...
Gemma asks Anna to help us behind the bar. But there are too many people for the small place and we step on each other feet.
It isn't so busy, thus we can prepare in advance foamed milk, lemon, bring bottles of stock, even clean furniture.
Little by little, customers ask for more and more drinks. We can follow. There are few tickets which wait to be served...but we don't have enough place on the bar, glasses, ice...So it's complicated! Finally, we arrive to serve all drinks. However, english people always drink & eat...So we can have a break...contrary to Thursday, Saturday is three times as busy.
Today, I meet Chris. He is nice boy who must be barman before because he advices me about some drinks.
At 16, Marco takes his break. He is gone to smoke and eat. One hour after, Gemma tells me that it's my break. Nicky asks me if I want to eat something. I answer her yes of course I'm hungry! She tells me to wait at the table. I sit in front of Anna and start conversation. She is very nice and courageous. She is 20, and will go to the Designer University in September. She wants to create new modern furnitures for houses. She used to work for the Cafe Rouge all her holidays in order to pay her studies. But unbelievable, she earns less than me...whereas she works sometimes like barwoman and always waitress. And she has worked more times than me. I don't understand ! Nicky still hasn't taken my order so I ask for a "baguette au steak". It isn't free but I have a staff reduction so it's quiet cheap (£3.25 rather than £7.5).
Greg, the cook joined us and speaks with Anna about Design. He speaks quiet quickly, I try to follow but my brain is slow and tired so I give up.
We come back to work, I finish at 21 so I help Marco to clean the bar before I leave.
I go to take the bus but there is a market on the canal side so I look before to come back at home. There is a market man who sells aperitif speciality so I ask him to make me a mix of all: salt and sweet. It's cost me £6 for I don't know the weight...I don't care...it's just when I will come back at my french home.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This time, I'm careful about bus' hours. Yeah! there aren't the same bus Saturdays, and Sundays. Nothing special happens. orders. I have planned to go to the beach after work but I'm tired and I know now that I work tomorrow all the day so I prefer to come back at home and write my blog. I ask Jon what are my hours for next week because they aren't on the paper. I ask him a favour about my problem of transport in the evening. But he doesn't understand why I accept to work for him if I can't work the evening. I explain him that my last bus is at 22:00 so I would like to finish at 21 and not until the close. Unfortunately, he doesn't want because if he accept he will have to pay an other barman for 2 hours and it's unacceptable. Finally, I tell him it's all right I will work the evening too. I'm suprised due to my last close was with Marco, so there is already a second barman who can look to the bar.
